Dr. Konstantin Frank was a man of vision and irascible
tenacity - so much so that his efforts, both in the vineyards of the
Finger Lakes Region and in the cellars that bear his name, have fixed
his place in history as one of the pioneers of the American Wine industry.
What a treat it is to be able to continue to experience and enjoy
the fruits of his labors, through the legacy of his wines carried
on by his son Willy and grandson Fred, whose own untiring focus has
been to continue production and build upon their heritage. Obviously
no stranger to winning awards for their wines at National and International
Competitions, these three wines represent some of Dr. Frank's most
outstanding achievements in white wines.
The Johannisberg Riesling Semi-dry is rich and mouth-filling, with lots of fruit to offer, making it an exquisite sipping wine. Although it's magnificent with dessert, some might find it enjoyable with something spicy or Asian. Dr. Frank's Rieslings, because of superior clone and careful site selection, are elegant and age surprisingly well, gaining interesting complexities characteristic of the noble Riesling grape. A perennial top award winner.
Lone Star International: Gold Medal & Grand Award White
American Wine Society Competition: Gold Medal
Chances are you've never had anything like Rkatsiteli.
This spicy white grape, (pronounced ar-kat-si-TEL-lee) originated
near Mount Ararat on the border of Armenia and Turkey and dates
back at least 5,000 years. Rkatsiteli starts out tasting something
like a Riesling, but lingers longer on the palate, and has a spiciness
reminiscent of, but different from, Gewurztraminer, evoking herbs,
strawberries, and fresh ground pepper. Try it with salmon or grilled
tuna. It's worth learning to pronounce! While Rkatsiteli is one
of the most widely grown grapes in the world thanks to large plantings
in eastern Europe, the Frank vineyard is the only winery to produce
it commercially.
Long Beach Grand Cru: Gold Medal & Best of Class
Riverside Int'l Wine Competition: Chairman's Award
Los Angeles County Fair: Gold Medal & Best in Class
Int'l Eastern Wine Competition: Double Gold
Off-dry, rich and spicy. There's an engaging
rose petal bouquet; the rare, fleeting essence of this varietal.
Few winemakers in the Finger Lakes make this wine. Most of those
who do, make it well, but this is one of the best. Two thumbs up
and an order of Hot Thai Green Curry, to go!
Florida State Fair Int'l Wine Competition: Gold Medal
Long Beach Grand Cru: Gold Medal
There can be no doubt that has achieved unprecedented popularity in the
past decade, and seems poised to take center stage among a sleek
new generation of New York reds from Long Island, the Finger Lakes,
and the Hudson River Valley. It is a grape variety with a rich cultural
legacy, responsible for many of the great wines of St-Emilion in
Bordeaux, as well as the best reds of the middle Loire Valley.
From the Hudson Valley - Exhibiting the traditional cabernet bouquet, and a good body, this wine is impressive, and is at its best with steak or beef.
The cooler Finger Lake climate allows this variety to develop wonderful raspberry, violet and cedar aromas. With a deep, rich color along with abundant tannins. Barrel aging in American and French oak for 10 months gives this wine a deep structure and full mouth feel with rich tannins. Elegant and excellent with steak and mushrooms or pasta tossed with fresh tomatoes, basil and Asiago cheese.
From Long Island's organic vineyard, this wine is packed with aromas of black cherry, black raspberry and black pepper, with an elegant "earthy" nose, smooth with toasty, smoky aromas and vibrant with juicy, jammy fruit.
come in many flavors and styles, but all are fruity, festive and bound to bring out the lover in you, or yours...
The pale salmon color and distinct aromas of fresh cut flowers, apples and strawberries combine harmoniously with the bursting flavors of peaches, and tropical fruits. This is what a blush wine should be!
A blush wine with fruit flavor of strawberry & raspberry. Long Islands challenge to White Zinfandel. A delight with barbecue foods, chicken and fish. Refreshing chilled and perfect for just sipping.
Nice berry-like fruit aromas and a clean semi-dry finiish. Made from Cayuga White and Pinot Noir.
