June is Rosé month at Vintage New York and at wineries throughout New York State. These refreshing and increasingly complex versions of a wine that is not quite red and not quite white, have complexity and nuances of flavors to enhance a wide range of foods and are usually a very affordable they are being released in record numbers by vineyards across the state. Each one is slightly different, and none are like the pink "White Zinfandels" of the '80's and '90's.
100% Cabernet Franc. Delightfully dry, with a full mouthfeel and fairly rich fruit flavors reminiscent of rose petals, currants, and a whiff of strawberry.
100% Merlot, it's a gorgeous salmon color and offers a lightly fruity nose and crisp Fuji apple flavors accented by hints of strawberry. This is a real thirst quencher, so try it as an aperitif this summer or with a picnic lunch.
Made with Cabernet Sauvignon grapes. Beautifully
floral on the nose with hints of honeysuckle, it offers light, bright
peach fruitiness on the tongue, is slightly sweet and definitely
delicious.
Cabernet Franc is a summer food-friendly wine that is being grown with great success in all of New York's winegrowing regions. Equally at home with chicken and pork as with beef and lamb - its spicy peppery accents are a nice counterpoint to the berry fruit flavors. Think of it as a Cabernet for everyday...
This opaque substantial wine bursts on the palate with peppery spicy flavors and hints of toasty cedar. This is a well-balanced wine with an intense aroma and a powerful velvet finish.
Is more in the Old World Loire style, with subtle cherry fruit, a hint of oak and a touch of classic Cab Franc herbaceousness. Lively acidity gives the wine balance.
Vibrant cranberry and raspberry aromas and taste up front with a full mid-palate and a lingering finish with subtle chocolate and cedar highlights.
Sparkling wines are one of New York's strong
suits - and what better way to savor a long summer's day than with
a refreshing sip of effervescence. Here are three classics from
Cayuga Lake's Swedish Hill Winery:
